P. Harvey Newell is a poet, writer and lecturer in Creative and Critical Writing at Birkbeck University, London. They studied English Language and Literature at King's College London, where they went on to an MA in Philosophy. In 2018, they completed a creative-critical PhD on the conceptual history of clouds. P. has worked as a Lecturer in Theatre & Performance Studies and as a Lecturer in Creative Writing. They are a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
P. was a BBC Introducing Artist with a short radio drama entitled 'Speaking Because of Bodies' aired on BBC Radio 6, commissioned by New Creatives North and produced by Naked Productions. P.'s poetry has featured in various journals, including The Poetry Review, Under the Radar, The London Magazine, 3:AM, Hobart, Magma, Alien Mouth, Cordite: Transqueer, and Lambda Literary Poetry Spotlight, amongst others. Other major poetry and performance commissions include b-side festival, Lakes Ignite, and Utopia at Somerset House/The Courtauld Institute. P. won a Northern Writers' Award in 2019 for a working pamphlet of poems entitled 'Karaoke Classics'. They received a Pushcart Prize 2019 nomination from the editors at The Portland Review.
